The Porsche Penske Motorsport team unveiled its new Porsche 963 entry, which will hunt for overall victories in the world’s greatest endurance races. From 2023, two of the hybrid LMDh-spec prototypes will be fielded in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The new racing machine was unveiled on Friday, June 24, at Goodwood in England. It wears a more traditional Porsche motor racing livery in white, red and black. Experienced racers and championship winning prototype drivers will be paired with seasoned specialists from Porsche’s works driver squad. Porsche Penske Motorsport will operate from two locations: The branch in Mannheim (Germany) is responsible for the FIA World Endurance Championship, with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship vehicles prepared in Mooresville, North Carolina, USA. “After 7,889 test kilometers during the first half of 2022, we’re on a very good path but there is still work to be done before the start of next season,” outlines Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Motorsport. “Our new Porsche 963 should continue the legacy of legendary models such as the 917, 935, 956, 962 and the 919 Hybrid. I’m positive that we’ll be well-positioned when it comes to technology and we’ve also created the relevant team structures to set us up for wins in the thrilling competition between many manufacturers and different concepts.” The official race debut of the Porsche 963 is planned to take place in January 2023 at the 24 Hours of Daytona in the USA. In the meantime, the FIA WEC has opened the door for testing as part of the upcoming world championship races this year. Porsche Penske Motorsport is aiming for a non-competitive dress rehearsal at the final round of the season in Bahrain this November.

Max Verstappen (No. 1 Oracle Red Bull Racing) claimed his fifth win in the last six races at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix, withstanding a late onslaught from Carlos Sainz (No. 55 Scuderia Ferrari), as Lewis Hamilton (No. 44 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team) took his second podium of the season in P3. Verstappen was looking well-placed for a comfortable victory over Sainz at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve when a Safety Car was called on Lap 49 of 70, after Yuki Tsunoda hit the Turn 2 barriers after exiting the pits. Racing resumed with 16 laps remaining, Verstappen holding off the attacks of the fresher-tired Sainz to claim his sixth victory of the season, and his 26th overall, as Sainz took his fifth podium of the year – although the Spaniard’s wait for his first victory continues. Hamilton had been scathing in his assessment of the Mercedes W13 on Friday, but the car looked handy on race day in Canada, as the seven-time champion completed the podium, his first rostrum appearance since the Bahrain season opener. (crash.net)Fabio Quartararo (No. 20 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) won the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, which could well be looked back at as a crucial race in the 2022 MotoGP™ World Championship title fight. Fabio not only scored consecutive victories for the first time this year but is now 34 points clear at the top of the standings. Aleix Espargaro (No. 41 Aprilia Racing) remains second in the title race after finishing fourth at the Sachsenring, but Francesco Bagnaia (No. 63 Ducati Lenovo Team) has a mountain to climb after he crashed out while chasing Quartararo on Lap 4. From that point on, Quartararo asserted himself in a dominant display to win by almost five seconds after 30 laps, with Johann Zarco (No. 5 Prima Pramac Racing) finishing a lonely second. There was some solace for Ducati in the form of Jack Miller (No. 43 Ducati Lenovo Team), who fought back from a Long Lap penalty to earn the final place on the podium, while Luca Marini (No. 10 Mooney VR46 Racing Team) grabbed fifth on another Desmosedici.
