Now What?" - the Detroit Auto Show is in desperate need of a total rethink, for myriad reasons. Now, Automotive News is reporting that, according to its sources (2/9), Mercedes-Benz is pulling out of the Detroit Auto Show and won't be back in 2019. Jaguar/Land Rover, Mazda, Porsche and Volvo have already exited the show, but the exit of Mercedes-Benz would be a huge loss, not only because of the money it spends here (the German automaker always stages a costly off-site presentation for the media before the press days), but because many European-based journalists won't bother to come to Detroit if Mercedes-Benz isn't at the Detroit Auto Show. If the Detroit Auto Show organizers don't take this as the last warning that pretty much everything about the show needs to change - starting with moving it to June - then it will become a second-tier auto show once and for all. -PMD

Since Mercedes-Benz completely revamped its G-Class, it followed that the new 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 would undergo substantial change as well. The G63 features an AMG-developed suspension, AMG-specific transmission modes and a new interior with optimal widescreen cockpit. It is powered by a handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with 577HP and a maximum of 627 lb-ft. torque. Other stuff? It has rear-biased all-wheel drive (40:60), three differential locks, 9-speed automatic transmission, double wishbone independent front suspension and adaptive adjustable damping. It also boasts a AMG-specific radiator grille, flared wheel arches, bad-ass side pipes and wheels up to 22-inches in diameter. The G63 goes zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds (est.), 0.9 seconds faster than the previous model (which is absolutely crucial when going to dinner). Top speed is limited to a maximum speed of 137 mph, or 149 mph with the AMG Driver's package. The 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 will debut at the Geneva Motor Show, with a pricing announcement and U.S. market launch by the end of 2018.

The new generation 2019 BMW X4 is making its debut as the BMW X4 M40i and the BMW X4 xDrive30i. It has a wider track, the latest generation BMW suspension technology, a lower center of gravity, improved aerodynamics and a bunch of other stuff. It will be at BMW dealers in July 2018 with pricing starting at - (cough, hack) - $50,450 for 30i, and $60,450 for M40i, plus Destination and Handling. That is all.
