Scott Dixon gets congratulations from Chip Ganassi Racing's Mike Hull after winning the Honda Indy 200 IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio on Sunday afternoon. Driving the No. 9 CGR PNC Bank Honda Turbo V6, the five-time NTT IndyCar Series champion made sure he remained in contention for the 2019 season title with the victory. But career win No. 46 required Dixon to hold off his fast CGR rookie teammate - Felix Rosenqvist - in a last lap battle. With Rosenqvist (No. 10 CGR Clover Honda Turbo V6) charging hard in the closing laps, the two drivers had wheel contact when Rosenqvist attempted a final pass through Turn 2. Both cars bobbled and recovered, which led to a thrilling run to the checkered flag as Dixon drove with thoroughly cooked tires to capture the win. The margin of victory was 0.0934 seconds, the closest Indy car finish at Mid-Ohio and third closest on a road course in Indy car history. "Oh, man, that was crazy," said Dixon. "(I was) just a sitting duck ... and if I wasn't his teammate I think he would have (knocked) me off." Dixon's 46th career win pulled him to six of Mario Andretti (52) for second place on Indy car's all-time list. A.J. Foyt ranks first with 67. Dixon also scored his second win of the season, a record-extending sixth at the 13-turn, 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio circuit, and allowed Chip Ganassi's team to break a tie with Newman-Haas Racing for second-most entrant wins in history with 108. Team Penske has won 210.

Felix Rosenqvist (No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Clover Honda Turbo V6) was chasing his first career win in the NTT IndyCar Series, and he said the team told him to race hard for the lead while being mindful of Dixon's position as a teammate and championship contender. "A bit of a mixed (message)," Rosenqvist said with a laugh. "He's always on the right level of aggression and safety," Rosenqvist said. Dixon added: "That's what IndyCar racing is - it produces the best racing in the world."

Dixon caught a break on the final lap when series leader Josef Newgarden (No. 2 Team Penske PPG Chevrolet Turbo V6) had contact with Ryan Hunter-Reay (No. 28 Andretti Autosport DHL Honda Turbo V6) in a fight for third place on the final lap in Turn 2. The result? Newgarden spun and ended up stalled in a sand trap, causing him to finish fourteenth. Hunter-Reay finished third.

Max Verstappen (No. 33 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing/Honda) took his second win of the year in a chaotic and incident-strewn German Grand Prix held in intermittent rain at the Hockenheimring. The Dutchman finished ahead of Sebastian Vettel (No. 5 Scuderia Ferrari), who started last on the grid and came home in second. Daniil Kvyat (No. 26 Toro Rosso Red Bull Honda) was third. "It was amazing to win," Verstappen commented. "It was really tricky out there to make the right calls, you had to be focused. I made a nice 360, I enjoyed that. It was about trying to not make too many mistakes. You learn over the years I'm very happy with the result." It was also the second win in three races for Honda power. Lewis Hamilton (No. 44 Mercedes-AMG Petronas) had a day to forget, finishing eleventh after two mistakes. But the Briton did not lose any ground to teammate Valtteri Bottas (No. 77 Mercedes-AMG Petronas) in the championship after the Finn crashed. Denny Hamlin (No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing FedEx Toyota) led a 1-2-3 sweep for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Monster Energy Series NASCAR Cup race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. Hamlin passed teammate and race runner-up Erik Jones (No. 20 JGR Toyota) on Lap 144 and saved enough fuel to last through an overtime that carried the event three laps beyond its scheduled distance of 160 circuits. The victory was Hamlin’s third of the season and the 34th of his career. “You just want to know that you’re a race winner,” said Hamlin, who turned heads in his 2006 rookie season with two wins from the pole at Pocono. “You just want to know that you can contend for wins. Yeah, you’re looking for momentum, but you’re just looking for wins week-in and week-out." Martin Truex Jr. (No. 19 JGR Toyota) was third.
