Rounds 9 & 10 of the 2009 SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship took place at VIRginia International Raceway last weekend. Todd Lamb (No. 84 AMG/Traqmate/Luna-C Racing MX-5, above), of Atlanta, Ga., took his eighth-consecutive race win and strengthened his lead in the championship in the first half of the doubleheader. Todd Buras (No. 14 AMG MX-5), of Melbourne, Fla., and Lyonel Kent (No. 13 ALARA Racing/eData Solutions MX-5), of Powell, Tenn., completed the Round Nine podium, part of the Bosch Engineering Octoberfest weekend. Lamb won by 0.803-second, averaging 86.570 mph during the 20-lap, 65.4-mile race on the 17-turn, 3.27-mile road course. Lyonel Kent won Round 10 with Justin Piscitell (No. 89 ALARA/DAMG Racing/MAZDASPEED MX-5), of Patterson, N.Y., and Mark Jenkins (No. 25 Team MER/JBR/Traxxas/BFG/Simpson/Amsoil MX-5), of Fairview, Texas, completing the podium at the 2009 season finale. In the final Championship standings - with the lowest scoring race from each drivers’ total dropped - Lamb claimed the Championship by 51 points over Marc Miller (530 to 479). Pisctell ended the season in third (475) followed by Jenkins (394) and Kent (390).
