(Genesis)
You're going to be hearing a lot about the new Genesis GV80, the division's first sport-utility vehicle.  The interior and exterior styling of the GV80 is the result of a collaboration between Genesis Design studios located in South Korea, the United States and Germany. The GV80 is based on a unique rear-wheel-drive platform; all-wheel drive will be optional. GV80 will launch in the U.S. this spring with two turbocharged gasoline engines. GV80 models equipped with all-wheel drive in the U.S. Market will feature an electronically controlled Limited Slip Differential at the rear axle. Electronically controlled suspension with road preview helps provide passengers with optimal ride comfort by recognizing information on the road ahead in advance via the front camera. GV80 features the world’s first application of Road Active Noise Cancellation (RANC) technology, which dramatically reduces road noise while driving. Based on the science of digital signal processing, RANC overcomes the limitations of existing noise control technologies that rely on physical technology, such as materials and body structures, to quiet the cabin. RANC generates sound waves of opposite phases in 0.002 second by analyzing road noise in real time, dramatically reducing irregular, simultaneous road noise. Another feature is an active motion driver’s seat that contains seven air cells: a feature that reduces fatigue from long hours of driving. One-touch comfort control, adjustable from the front row, allows for limousine-level relaxation in the second-row seats. Heated and ventilated seats are available in the first two rows. Editor-in-Chief's Note: The GV80 is pretty much a make or break vehicle for Hyundai's luxury brand. If the GV80 doesn't gain a foothold in this market, the division will be finished here. But given the voracious appetite U.S consumers have for SUVs/Crossovers, they have a better than 50-50 chance to succeed. As long as Hyundai operatives don't screw up the marketing, which is a very strong possibility given their track record. -PMD

There were no surprises at the North American Car, Truck and SUV Awards announced on Monday. The all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been selected as the 2020 North American Car of the Year by a 50-member jury of independent journalists. The Stingray was selected not only for its revolutionary mid-engine design, but for its level of refinement and impressive performance. The Corvette was previously honored with this award in 1998 for the introduction of the fifth generation and again in 2014 for the introduction of the seventh generation. Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter received the award this morning at a public ceremony held at the TCF Center (formerly Cobo Hall) in Detroit. “It’s humbling to be selected for this award by such an impressive jury of automotive journalists,” said Juechter. “Our team poured our hearts and souls into this vehicle, and to see such an overwhelmingly positive reception makes it all worthwhile. We are sure our customers will love the new Corvette as much as these jurors and we can’t wait to get them behind the wheel." Corvette production will begin in February 2020 at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly in Kentucky, with customer deliveries taking place shortly thereafter.

From the "You'll Never See One Out In The Wild" File.
The Bentley Mulsanne 6.75 Edition by Mulliner will be restricted to just 30 unique examples. With the Mulsanne completing production once the thirty 6.75 Edition cars are built, the all-new Flying Spur will become Bentley’s flagship model, with a hybrid powertrain by 2023. The Mulsanne 6.75 Edition by Mulliner will be based on the existing 530HP, 1100 Nm, driver-focused, Mulsanne Speed. Subtle references to the 6¾-liter V8 are evident across the car: The interior "organ stop" ventilation controls are replaced by designs capped by miniature versions of the engine oil cap; a unique 6.75 Edition motif is stitched into the seats, and recreated in chrome badging for the exterior and the engine bay; the same logo will be projected by the LED Welcome Lamps; and the faces of the clock and minor gauges will feature schematic cutaway drawings of the engine itself. (It comes with a long list of other stuff too; if you care to find out more, we're sure you can gather more info on the Bentley website.) By the way, the Mulsanne’s 6¾-liter V8 is also the world’s longest-serving V8 of its type in continuous production. Designed, engineered and hand-built in Crewe, England, the Mulsanne’s V8 engine is also the world’s longest-serving V8 of its type in continuous production. The engine was first used in the 1959 Bentley S2 and although it has been redesigned many times over the decades, the basic principles and dimensions that have defined the engine for six decades remain the same. How much? Does it matter?

Besides updates and refinements to its 2021 Canyon Denali, GMC also announced a new off-road oriented Canyon AT4.
It features bolder exterior design details defined by dark chrome finishes, a new larger grille design and red recovery hooks. It offers more capability from 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac® tires fitted to 17-inch aluminum wheels; an off-road tuned suspension with Advanced Hill Descent Control System; a four-wheel drive system with Eaton G80 Rear Automatic Locking Differential and a transfer case skid plate. The interior features premium detailing, including unique Kalahari stitching and AT4 headrest embroidery. The 2021 Canyon AT4 will be available later this year; no pricing was announced.

(The Peterson Automotive Museum)
The Petersen Automotive Museum will debut a new exhibit featuring ten custom vehicles, donated from James Hetfield’s personal collection. Opening February 1, 2020, in the Bruce Meyer Family Gallery, “Reclaimed Rust: The James Hetfield Collection” will celebrate Hetfield’s creativity as a world-renowned artist through his built-from-scratch custom car collection, guitars, photos and memorabilia. Key vehicles on display will include the 1948 Jaguar “Black Pearl” (above), the 1934 Packard “Aquarius,” the 1953 Buick Skylark “Skyscraper,” the 1937 Lincoln Zephyr “VooDoo Priest,” the 1936 Auburn “Slow Burn,” which were designed by famed builder and television personality, Rick Dore, as well as the 1936 Ford “Iron Fist,” the 1937 Ford Coupe “Crimson Ghost,” and the 1932 Ford Roadster “Black Jack.” Along with the custom vehicles, memorabilia on display will include an ESP Hollow Body guitar and a Mesa amplifier that are painted to match the Buick Skylark “Skyscraper,” images displaying the build process of each car and a video of Hetfield talking about the cars. “'Reclaimed Rust’ brings together two industries that go hand in hand with artist expression,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “This is the first time the Hetfield collection will be showcased to the public and we can’t wait to share the inspiration behind these extraordinary vehicles with the world.” Hetfield is a lifelong car enthusiast and views his collection as a form of expression to convey his creativity. Hetfield’s vehicles assert both a reverence for history and a disregard for convention, standing collectively as a testament to the musician’s distinctive personality and artistic energy. The museum will host a ticketed opening reception on January 30, 2020. The reception will be highlighted by a ribbon cutting, a fireside chat with James Hetfield and an auction featuring two limited-edition ESP guitars.

Porsche is adding two new models to its mid-engine sports car range: the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. The new mid-engine sports cars are powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine developing 394HP and 309 lb.-ft. of torque and
equipped exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission and standard Sport Exhaust System. Porsche says that this engine is closely related to the 414HP variant used in the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4. Both variants can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and reach a top track speed of 182 mph. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sport suspension with a 20 millimeter lower ride height (compared to other 718 Boxster and Cayman models) is standard, as is Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical limited-slip differential. The Sport Chrono package with upgraded Porsche Track Precision App is standard. The mid-engine sports cars are fitted with 20-inch light-alloy wheels painted in satin black and high-performance summer tires (235/35 ZR 20 at the front and 265/35 ZR 20 at the rear). The brake system has been enhanced with cross drilled cast-iron front rotors measuring 13.8 inches (350 millimeters) in diameter (up from 330 mm previously) and equipped with red six-piston calipers, while the rear rotor size has been increased to 13 inches (330 mm). The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as an option. Black contrasting design elements and a dark Alcantara® interior are featured as well. The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 will be available to order in the U.S. in summer 2020. Detailed pricing and arrival timing at U.S. dealers will also be announced at that time.

AE Song Lyrics of the Week:

I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd have said the right thing
But must have used the wrong line
I been on the right trip
But I must have used the wrong car
Head is in a bad place and I wonder what it's good for
I been in the right place

But it must have been the wrong time
My head is in a bad place
But I'm having such a good time
I been running trying to get hung up in my mind
Really got to give myself a good talking to this time

Just need a little brain salad surgery

Got to que my insecurity
I been in the wrong place
But it must have been the right time
I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong song
I been in the right vein
But it seems like a wrong arm
I been in the right world
But it seems like wrong-wrong-wrong wrong-wrong
Slipping dodging sneaking creeping hiding down the street
See my life shaking with every who I meet
Refried confusion is making itself clear
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here
I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd have said the right thing
But I must have used the wrong line
I took the right road
But I must have took a wrong turn
I took a right move
But I made it at the wrong time
I was in the right trip
But I made it in the wrong car
Head is in a good place and I wonder what it's bad for
