Klaus Graf and Romain Dumas (Muscle Milk Team CytoSport Porsche RS Spyder) won the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport Sunday afternoon. The race was red-flagged after a horrendous wreck between Luke Hines and Jonny Cocker on Mosport International Raceway’s Andretti Straight damaged the Armco safety barrier beyond timely repair, so the race was re-started long enough to conclude under yellow. David Brabham and Simon Pagenaud (Patrón Highcroft Racing HPD ARX-01c) finished second and still hold the lead in the LMP championship of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón heading into the Petit Le Mans season finale at Road Atlanta. PHR leads the driver and team championships by 16 points, and 30 points are up for grabs to the class winners in the final race. Johnny Mowlem and Toronto’s Tony Burgess (Autocon Motorsports’ Lola B06/10-AER) finished third in class. Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister (No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 RSR) were GT winners for the fourth time this year, solidifying their hold on the class championship. Toni Vilander and Gimmi Bruni placed second in their Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT and Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner (BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team M3) finished third. Gunnar Jeannette and Elton Julian (Green Earth Team Gunnar ORECA FLM09) won the LMP Challenge class for the fourth time. The victory moved Jeannette and Julian into a tie with Level 5 Motorsports’ Scott Tucker for the class championship; Tucker drove to a runner-up finish with Christophe Bouchut. And Shane Lewis and Lawson Aschenbach (Velox Racing 911 GT3 Cup) won their first American Le Mans Series race. The duo was running second to Hines when the ORBIT/Paul Miller Racing entry crashed. The Brabham/Pagenaud pairing won the LMP portion of the MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge, given to the entry that goes the farthest the fastest with the least environmental impact while Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen were the GT winners. We're pleased to be able to display more of John Thawley's terrific images - this time from Mosport - here. The final round of the 2010 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA2 at Road Atlanta. The 1,000-mile/10-hour race is set for 11:15 a.m. ET on Saturday, October 2.

Dario Franchitti (No. 10 Breathe Right Honda-Powered Dallara/Firestone) duels with Helio Castroneves (No. 3 Team Penske D/H/F) on the banking at Chicagoland Speedway Saturday night. Franchitti picked up the lead after the final pit stop on Lap 173 - relying on a gutsy call of double stinting his Firestone Firehawk tires for 62 laps - and held off Dan Wheldon (No. 4 National Guard Panther Racing D/H/F) by 0.0423 of a second to win the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300 for his third win of the season. Will Power (No. 12 Verizon Team Penske D/H/F) had to pit for fuel with five laps left, costing him a shot at the win while finishing 16th. It also allowed Franchitti to close within 23 points of Power's points lead with with three oval races left. Marco Andretti (No. 26 Andretti Autosport Team Venom Energy) delivered another third place as Andretti Autosport placed three drivers in the top five.

The racing was certifiably insane - albeit exciting as hell - at Chicagoland Speedway Saturday night. Here Dan Wheldon, Will Power and Marco Andretti go at it. IndyCar will not be returning to Chicago next year, and many of the drivers are not overly distraught about it being dropped from the calendar.
(Dan Helrigel/IndyCar)
It was a costly race for Will Power - he didn't get a full fuel load on one pit stop forcing him to come into the pits with five laps to go - as Franchitti took a big chunk out of his point lead.

This was Franchitti's 26th Indy car racing victory, tying Rodger Ward for 11th on the all-time list (USAC, CART, Indy Racing league sanction). Johnny Rutherford (27) is next. The 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season continues with the Kentucky Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway on September 4. The race will be telecast live in High Definition at 8 p.m. (ET) by VERSUS. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 145 and Sirius channel 212. The race also will be carried on www.indycar.com.

James Hinchcliffe (No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling) held off Pippa Mann (No. 11 Sam Schmidt Motorsport) by 0.0159 of a second - the third-closest margin of victory in Firestone Indy Lights history - to win the Chicagoland 100. Philip Major (No. 49 Sam Schmidt Motorsports) also posted a career best to finish third. Another Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver - points leader J.K. Vernay - finished fourth in his No. 7 Lucas/CJ car.
